As people begin traveling again, many of us are reopening our homes to visiting friends and family. Of course, you want your loved ones to feel at home in your home. Being a welcoming host requires creating an inviting, warm, and comfortable guest room. And freshening up your guest room will do just that.

So, how can you create the perfect respite for your guests? Here’s how to create a welcoming, bright, and comfortable guest space easily:

Put a Fresh Coat of Paint on the Walls

It’s a wonderful time to refresh the color of your guest room. Not only will this help you see the space as a blank canvas, but it will also create a fresh, clean space for your guests.

What paint color should you consider? Aim for a neutral or a subdued version of a color you have in the rest of your home. Consider:

  • Fresh white
  • Creamy linen
  • Light sage
  • Soft gray

Allow for Varying Light Levels

One of the most subjective aspects of comfortable living spaces is how much light fills the room. Some people prefer black-out curtains, so they can sleep in while on vacations. Others need a bright bedside light for reading before bed. And of course, there are those who want a level somewhere in between.

Allow your guests to choose their own amount of natural and artificial light with double curtain panels, lamps, and overhead lights.

Invest in Plenty of Quality Linens

It can be difficult to sleep soundly away from home. Providing soft, lux linens can help your guests sleep more soundly. And, just as there’s a wide array of preferences when it comes to light levels, the same is true for temperatures.

Outfit your guest room with a set of soft sheets, with a thinner blanket above them, and a thick duvet on top. Don’t skip the bed scarf or a throw somewhere nearby for an extra cozy environment.

Choose light-toned sheets since lighter colors feel cleaner and fresher. As for your guest room duvet, choose something classic and tasteful. (Duvet covers will save you having to haul a heavy duvet back and forth to the laundry room, and you can change the design at any time).

And don’t forget to include fresh, fluffy towels somewhere visible to your visitor.

Set Up a Caffeine Station

A small table with a coffee maker, electric kettle, bottled water, tea, coffee mugs, sweeteners, and dry creamer can be a warm welcome for your guests. You can even add a few snacks or biscotti for an extra welcoming touch.

Keep in Mind Guests Often Like to Unpack

Part of that at-home feeling includes not living out of a suitcase. Providing your guests with a chest of drawers and a closet with hangers allows them to unpack during their stay. If you are working with limited space, a luggage rack is an excellent space-saving way to get your guest’s luggage up off the floor and off the bed.

Don’t Skimp on the Art

Just because your guest room’s linens and wall colors are likely neutral, doesn’t mean your art has to be boring. Bland or boring art that is void of personality can make a guest room feel generic. When decorating your guest room, hang art you like and appreciate. This shows guests that you care about their space as much as you care about the rest of your home.

Take the Room for a Test Ride

Staying in your guest room overnight will illuminate any areas and pleasantries your guests may want. This is even more important if your guests will be using a guest bathroom. Take note of any niceties you would want if you were staying in the room:

  • Lotion
  • Facial scrub
  • A white noise machine
  • Magnifying mirror for putting on makeup
  • Makeup removing wipes

Create a Welcoming, Stylish, and Inspiring Guest Space

When it comes to creating the perfect guest room, remember that your guests will appreciate the effort and a comfortable place to rest. Keep in mind that simpler is better, so don’t clutter the space with too much decor. Put your personality into your bedding, art, and window coverings.
